| Our profile New Learning Academy was founded in 1998 and is a school which is dedicated to the teaching of languages. One of our strongest language programs is Spanish. The necessity to understand and speak the Spanish language is constantly growing, both for business and travel or leisure. That’s why we consider it a privilege to enhance the communication skills of anyone who has the desire to learn a second language. Besides offering our specialized Spanish programs we also have programs in Italian, German, French, Portuguese and English available. We pride ourselves on consistently offering personalized attention in a warm, friendly atmosphere. All of the professors at New Learning Academy have degrees and excellent credentials in the fields of language teaching and linguistics. They are very well-qualified, helpful and caring people that desire to see their student's communication skills grow. They see their task in teaching not only as a job but also as a responsibility to address the needs of each and every student at their own pace. The native language of all our Spanish teachers is Spanish. We view this as a very important asset so that students are able to learn the correct accent from day one. All of our courses, teachers and methodology are evaluated regularly and we have instituted a stringent quality assurance program within our academy to guarantee the satisfaction of the students as well as to achieve the objectives of the course. Learning Spanish at New Learning is exciting, efficient and yet very relaxed. Our whole methodology is focused and based on the modern communicative approach which emphasizes conversation. Yet we always keep in mind our students individual learning needs. We make sure that our students learn the language by using it in practical situations, placing them in real life conversations with locals and with pre-arranged field trips to Supermarkets, Airports, Hotels, Public Recreational Areas and others thereby, facilitating their abilities to think in Spanish. We have developed our own methodology and additional materials such as work books and grammar books that are used as reinforcements to what is being taught throughout the program Classes normally consist of 2-4 students. It’s very rare that a class size reaches the maximum of 7 students. Private tutoring is also available at your disposal to better enhance your understanding throughout the course. Classes that are very well organized, based on specific lesson plans that follow the program and an effective Teaching Methodology add up to be by far the best Spanish School in the region. New Learning Academy also has cultural activities available, including classes such as Latin Dance Class, Exotic Fruit Class, and more. Each Friday the second half of class is devoted to a cultural activity. We also have afternoon excursions and trips available at extra cost, including a City Tour; Coffee Plantation; InBio Park (Biodiversity); The Aviary Zoo; The Butterfly Farm; Lankester Gardens (Orchids) and Orosi Valley; Poas Volcano; Volcano Irazu National Park; Fantasia Equestre horse show; Butterfly farm & Coffee Britt tour; Braulio Carrillo National Park & Arial Tram; Iguana Park Canopy tour. Also available for the weekends are overnight trips to many beautiful places throughout the country, including Arenal; Puerto Viejo, Limón; Isla Bolaños; Tortuguero National Park; Manuel Antonio National Park; Monteverde Cloud Forest. Homestays A key part of our program is the Homestays we offer with selected Costa Rican families in Guadalupe and surrounding areas, most of which are within walking distance to our Academies. All students are encouraged to participate in this opportunity, as it provides an invaluable source of Spanish instruction as well as a wonderful interpersonal experience. Cultural interaction, communication, and the well-being of our students are the prime focus of this program. In general, home-stays are regarded as the most effective way to put into practice the Spanish you learn in the classroom. Living with a family that doesn’t speak English, in combination with intensive study, provides a wholly integrated exposure to both the language and the culture. In this way the learning process is greatly facilitated, as is the speed with which fluency is acquired. Home-stays also provide an economical alternative to hotels, as breakfast, dinner, a private room and laundry service are all included in the price. When a host family is accepted by New Learning Academy, after completing a comprehensive application, interview and home inspection by one of the owners of New Learning, the family attends an enabling seminar on the characteristics and purposes of the program. Participating families are chosen for their friendliness and helpfulness towards the students. Probably the most valuable aspect of the Home-stay experience, however, is the opportunity to really get to know a Costa Rican family, make many new friends and experience first-hand the famous Costa Rican warmth and hospitality!
